Charles Adkins was born on March 20, 1949, in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late John and Rosie Lee Adkins. Charles attended Hors Mann High School and graduated in 1967. After graduating high school, Charles headed west to sunny California to establish a new life full of many opportunities. Charles has always been a hard worker, and worked in construction for many years and found his niche in Masonry work. Charles began his own business “Masonry Development” in 1996 where he worked on both residential and commercial projects. Charles was known for his professionalism, thorough execution and great customer service. After putting a wall or enclosing a parking structure it was a given that Charles would ask about how his wall was holding up many years after he completed the project, he always wanted customers to feel that his work was more than satisfactory. As a business owner, Charles was able to employ many people who had the desire to work. He always gave people a chance and would mentor young men on how they could take his skills they learned from him and make something great out of themselves. Charles worked in this field successfully for over 40 years.
On June 10th 1995, he married the love of his life, Nona Lee. Charles and Nona could always be found close to one another enjoying movies, gardening, and always had their home open to house the people of God all over the country. Although Nona was the cook of the union, Charles could be found right beside her making his famous caramel cake with caramel icing that he loved to point out that he made from “scratch.”
Charles was very quiet and mild mannered but he ran across subject matter that interested him, he could go on talking for hours. Charles was a lover of current events. You could find him glued to the television watching CNN to ensure he was caught up on whatever was going on in the world around him. Charles had a unique interest in politics, foreign policies, and finances.
